The Calhoun County History 1854-1982 has an article about the Christopher Melahn family and lists some of the children.
Chris and Minnie came to Calhoun county in 1895 with 3 of their 10 children.
They farmed in the Pomeroy area and bought a farm Southeast of Fonda.
All the children eventually came to Calhoun County except one daughter who stayed in Sidney Il.
One daughter, Marie married Lewis Rost and lived in Pomeroy. They had two children, Delbert who still lives in Pomeroy and June who married Roy Dillemuth and lives in Pocahontas, Iowa
Daughter, Cal, married Harry Passow. Cal passed away shortly after.
Daughter Sadie, married Art Brown. They had 3 children who also lived on the Christopher Melahn farm. Sadie died while her children were young. Art then married Sadie's younger sister Emma.
Mollie married Elmer Wells. They also farmed near Pomeroy in Pocahontas County.
Son Fred married Rickie Hout from the Knoke-Fonda area.
Son Chris married Katie Kramerer and they made heir home on the Christopher Melahn farm located around the curve east of Jolley.
The farm is now owned by Christopher Melahn's granddaughter and her husband Bernard Casey.
Another son Bill, married in Illinois and came to Calhoun County later.
Elizabeth Melahn married Herman Passow. Herman came to Iowa a year before Christopher. Later he went back to Illinios to bring his wife and two older children to the farm in Iowa.
This article was written by Lois Buttolph, great-grandaughter of Christopher & Minnie Melahn
