Wm. Parkhurst, aged 71, who has been here for some time, occompanied by a sister, visiting at the home of Mr. Gorton, died Friday morning from bright’s disease. Short service was held at the Gorton home Saturday at 4 o’clock and the body conveyed to the home of the deceased in Lake City. Regular funeral services were held at the U. P. Church in Lake City Sunday.

Wm. Parkhurst died at the home of his niece, Mrs. Gorton, in Rockwell City on Friday, March 27 at 9 a.m. Deceased was one of twelve children, all of whom are dead except one brother, residing at Creighton, Nebr. And one sister, Mrs. Yound, of this city. He professed his acceptance of Christ and expressed great joy in him before his death. The funeral services were held at the U. B. Church in this city on Sunday afternoon, conducted by the pastor, Rev. J. D. McCord. Mr. Parkhurst was a private in Co. G of the 9th Illinois Volunteer Cavalry. He served for more than three years, being with Sherman in his famous march to the sea. The Grand Army Post and Woman’s Relief Corps attended the funeral in a body and escorted the remains to the Lake City Cemetery, where they held their burial services. The church was nicely decorated by flowers and American flags, by the members of the W. R. C.
