H. C. Larsen Rites Held Last Friday
Funeral services were held last Friday afternoon, August 3rd, at 2:30 o’clock from the First Presbyterian Church for Hans C. Larsen, an old and respected pioneer resident of Pomeroy and vicinity who passed away Wednesday morning.
Obituary – Hans Christian Larsen was born in Denmark on August 21st, 1859, and passed away August 1, 1934 at Pomeroy, Iowa at the age of 74 years, 11 months and 10 days. He came to America when he was 26 years of age, locating at Lake City where he worked on a farm in that vicinity. On March 29th, 1889, he was united in marriage to Andrea K. Peterson Kaiser of Lake City. They lived on a farm near Lake City for two years, after that they moved to a farm in Pocahontas County just three miles north of Pomeroy. Here they lived for 23 years and it is here that they spent the most active part of their lives, sharing the hardships and joys of those pioneer days. They were happy in the love they shared and met the hardships with courage and faith in God. Finding it desirable to give up the more strenuous work on the farm, they took a small acreage south of town in 1913. Retirement from this lighter farm activity came nine years later, in 1922, when they built a home in Pomeroy and enjoyed a well earned leisure. Death broke a very happy union three years ago when his wife passed away on July 22nd. He continued to reside in Pomeroy until his death. Mr. Larsen was a charter member of the First Presbyterian Church in Pomeroy. He was very earnest and faithful in his church relationship. He loved his church and his Lord. He recently said, “How sweet to be at Jesus feet and be at peace.” Mr. Larsen was highly and generously commended as an honest, upright citizen. His friends held him in high esteem. The real test of character is in the home, where he nobly met the test. As husband and father he was loving and true. All who knew him loved him. In his going we experience a great loss. He leaves to mourn his death, one daughter, Mrs. Axel Carlson of Laurens, six grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends who remain to cherish the memory of and praise God for what Mr. Larsen has meant to them. “Life’s race well run, life’s work well done, life’s crown well won, now comes rest.” Funeral services were held in the First Presbyterian Church Friday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock, the Rev. H.O. McMican of Fonday, a farmer pastor, in charge. A quartet composed of Mesdames H. J. Colburn and Gordon Johnson and Messrs. L. H. Geadke sang the following selections: We Are Going Down the Valley One by One, When I Get to the End of the Way, and Rock of Ages. Pallbearers were Albert Hansen, Malcolm Peterson, G. B. Peterson, Charles Sorenson, John A. Johnson, and E. R. Trukken. Burial was made in the Union Cemetery. Those from out of town to attend the funeral services were: Mr. and Mrs. A. P. Anderson, Mr. and Mrs. Nels Keiser and son Erwin and daughter Lois of Pocahontas; Mr. and Mrs. George Christenson, Mr. and Mrs. Ole Snidergourd and Mrs. Elsie Keiser of Gilmore City; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Keiser and son Merlin, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Keiser and children, Mr. and Mrs. Hans Keiser and son Virgil and daughter Lanona, and Mr. and Mrs. Rasmus Ross of Palmer; Mrs. Katie Eskeson and son Stanley, of Newell, and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Keiser of Madelia, Minn.
