Former Resident Dies at Webb
Henry Meyer Dies at Home of Son Sunday Morning
Henry Meyer, 66 years of age, and resident of this community since 1881, died Sunday morning at the home of his son, Charles, who lived near Webb, Iowa. He was brought here from Webb and the funeral services were held here Tuesday afternoon in St. John’s Lutheran Church. The services were attended by a large congregation. The Rev. H. Meyer had charge of the German service and the Rev. Wenger of Albert City, who was the spiritual advisor of the deceased while he was at the home of his son, had charge of the English service. Interment was in Union Cemetery. The following obituary was read at the services.
Obituary – Our deceased brother, Johann Heinrich Wilhelm Meyer, was born June 7th, 1867 in Ebstorf province, Hanover, Germany. In May 1869 he came with his parents to America and settled near Elmhurst, Illinois. Here at Elmhurst he received instruction in the Word of God and was confirmed. In 1881 he came with his parents to Iowa, where they settled on a farm near Pomeroy. November 30th, 1893 he was married to Miss Matilda Voss and to this union three children were born, two sons and ond daughter. His wife died April 12th, 1911, and since her death he has lived with his children on the farm. In February 1930 he suffered a stroke from which he never fully recovered. Since he could not be alone, he made his home with his daughter, Mrs. George Behrends, of Pomeroy. On decoration day of this year he went to Webb, where he lived on the farm with his son, Charles. His weakness increased and since the 13th day of July has been bedfast. Sunday morning, October 22nd, his death occurred at the age of 66 years, 4 months and 15 days. He leaves to mourn his death his three children, Charles and William of Webb, and Mrs. George Behrends of Pomeroy; four grandchildren, one brother, August Meyer, of Pomeroy; one sister, Mrs. J. B. Smith, of Pomeroy, and a number of other relatives and a large circle of friends.
