(December 23, 1854 – March 27, 1933)Virgel Iler Dies At Ames Monday
Virgel Iler, who has made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Wm. Kroska of Pomeroy, for the past ten years, passed away Monday at the home of his son, Steven Iler, at Ames, where he had recently gone for a short visit. The remains were brought to Jolley Wednesday, where funeral services were held in the afternoon. The following obituary was read at the services.
Obituary – Virgel Iler was born on December 23rd, 1854, in Mahon County, Iowa, and passed from this life March 27th, 1933, at Ames, Iowa, having lived 73 years, three months, and three days. In 1866 he came with his parents to Sac County where he resided for 35 years. It was while there that he met and married Miss Rhoda Brown, who preceded him in death December 5th, 1923. In 1901 he came with his wife and family to Calhoun County where he engaged in his former occupation, that of farming. To Mr. and Mrs. Iler were born four children: Steven Iler of Ames, Iowa; Mrs. Bringolf of Des Moines, Iowa; Miss Ruby Iler, who died at the age of 21; and Mrs. William Kroska of Pomeroy, Iowa. He also leaves 11 grandchildren and one great grandchild. He is survived also by a half brother, Silas Brown of Omaha, Nebr., and a half sister, Mrs. Dora Miller of Redwood Falls, Minn., and a brother, D. W. Iler of California. After the death of his wife, Mr. Iler made his home with his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. William Kroska, at Pomeroy. He was visiting with his son, Steven Iler, at Ames at the time of his death. He was a devoted Christian, having a deep religious experience and was a member of the Free Methodist Church. His many friends join with sympathy those who have lost this loved one. Funeral services were held on Wednesday at the Methodist Episcopal Church at Jolley with Rev. Charles A.
