Kenneth Eric Axman Sr.
(September 25, 1935 - March 2, 2021)

Kenneth E. Axman Sr. - age 85, of Pomeroy, passed away on Tuesday, March 2, 2021, at his home in Pomeroy, Iowa. Kenny was born on September 25, 1935, in rural Pomeroy, the oldest child of Eric and Astrid (Samuelson) Axman. He was baptized and confirmed at Elfsborg Lutheran Church. He attended country school – Colfax #2 thru 8th grade and graduated from Pomeroy High school with the Class of ‘54. On October 5, 1958, Kenny was united in marriage to Helen Holtorf at St. John Lutheran Church in Pomeroy. The couple lived in Knoke, where Kenny worked for the elevator. In the early 1960’s they moved to Pomeroy and Kenny worked with E.E. Peel – Standard Oil, eventually purchasing the business. In 1980 Kenny sold the business to the Pomeroy Elevator and continued to work in the petroleum business until retiring in 1994. In retirement he did woodworking known as “The Axman Shop”. Kenny had many hobbies including an annual fishing trip to Potato Lake in Park Rapids, Minnesota, watching sprint cars, gardening and caring for his roses. Kenny was very proud of his Swedish Heritage and passed that on to his family. He thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his family and attending his grandkids activities.
Kenny was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, serving in many capacities, was on the Pomeroy School Board, and was also a member of the Knoke and Pomeroy Fire Departments. Survivors include his wife, Helen Axman of Pomeroy; children, Bonita (Greg) Kock of West Des Moines; Janice Calabro of Omaha, NE; Kenny Axman Jr. of Pomeroy and Alan (Laura) Axman of West Des Moines; eleven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Vivian Clausen of Dexter and Delores (Carl) Lock of Johnston and brother, Marvin (Karen) Axman of Fort Dodge.
