Delroy DeVries
(April 19, 1959 - March 24, 2021)

Lake City -- Delroy Kent “Boo-Boo” DeVries, 61, “bought the farm” (passed away peacefully) Wednesday, March 24 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home in Fort Dodge, Iowa surrounded by family after a courageous lengthy battle with Lewy Bodies Dementia. A visitation will be held from 4 PM to 7 PM on Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at Lampe & Powers Funeral Home in Lake City. No funeral service will be held and burial will be at a later date. Delroy Kent DeVries was “hatched” on April 19, 1959 at McCrary-Rost Hospital in Lake City, Iowa to Lubbert and Irma (Gregg) DeVries. Delroy attended school in the Lake City School district graduating with the class of 1977 with a 4.0 grade point average (1.0 his Freshman year, 1.0 his Sophomore year, 1.0 his Junior year, and 1.0 his Senior year). After graduating from Lake City High School, Delroy attended Iowa Central Community College and farmed along with his father. On September 3, 1978, Delroy was married to Elma DeVries (Morenz), his loving wife of 42+ years, while farming with his father. To this union two children were born; son Clint in 1981, and daughter Shelby in 1984. In 1985, an opportunity for Delroy to put his knowledge of auto mechanics to work arose and at that time, he along with his wife and children, moved to Denver, Colorado where they resided until 1992 when they returned to the Lake City area. From the time of his return to the Lake City area in 1992 until his health began to deteriorate, Delroy farmed southeast of Lake City, sold Farm Bureau Insurance in Sac County, and was a Fort Dodge radio air time sales representative.
Delroy had two loves in his life….. the first was his family and friends. When it came to this, whether you were related by blood or not, you were FAMILY and he loved you dearly. The second was to athletics! To say Delroy was a sports fanatic would be an understatement! His interest was in ALL sports especially football (although somewhat of a mystery and bordering on insanity), but there was no question to his devotion for the Iowa State Cyclones Athletic Department. Delroy is survived by his wife Elma of Lake City; son Clint DeVries (Samantha Steele) of Lake City; daughter Shelby Wiley of Rockwell City; grandchildren Marcus Wiley, Gabe Wiley, Tabatha Steele, Amarantha Zieman, Natalia Steele, and George Steele; brothers Dean DeVries of Lohrville, Dick DeVries of Wheat Ridge, Colorado, and Dennis DeVries of Rugby, North Dakota; sister Mary Ann Wanner (Martin Wanner) of Ottumwa; and father-in-law Dwight Morenz of Lake City. He was preceded in death by his parents Lubbert and Irma DeVries; mother-in-law Frances Morenz; and many other family members.
