Bernece Ellen Frohling
(July 22, 1929 - May 25, 2022)

Bernece Frohling, age 92 of Lohrville, IA, passed away on Wednesday, May 25, 2022, at Stewart Memorial Hospital in Lake City, IA. Bernece Ellen was born on July 22, 1929, to parents John and Emma (Arnold) Tapper in Kamrar, IA. She attended grade school there and graduated from Kamrar High School with the class of 1946. After graduation, Bernece continued her education at ISTC in Cedar Falls, IA, earning her 2-year teaching degree. She then received her Bachelor’s Degree at Drake University in 1968. On November 24, 1948, Bernece was united in marriage to Michael Frohling. This union was blessed with five children: Debra, Janel, Christine, Steven, and Nicholas. Bernece held teaching jobs in multiple towns, starting with 6th grade at Mallard CSD from 1946 to 1950. She then taught 3rd grade at Twin Rivers from 1964 to 1972 and moved on to 3rd grade at Lake City CSD from 1973 to her retirement in 1994. In her free time, Bernece enjoyed tatting, crocheting, and sewing. She was a master gardener and liked spending time in her garden and cooking. Bernece was very active in her community and was a member of the UMW, American Legion Auxiliary, KS Club, ADK, and a 4-H Leader. Bernece loved her family and friends unconditionally. Although she was an educator for many years in the classroom, she remained a teacher all her life. She loved helping others and sharing her many skills. She was always a great fountain of information and a great resource. She loved Facebook and texting to keep in touch with family and friends. If she didn’t know the answer, she was quick to turn to Google. Her grandchildren were her special joys. Every summer they remember staying with grandma and grandpa and taking educational mystery trips. If the grandkids fought in the car with grandma around, Polka music came on. In her later years, she thoroughly enjoyed visits with her great-grandchildren. Bernece had many special Lohrville friends and church family who helped watch over her. Their visits and help were a bright spot in her day and also allowed her to stay in her own home, which was very important to her. Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Debra (Sam) Tvrdik of Gowrie, IA, Janel (Rod) Riley of Shell Knob, MO, Steven (Anna) Frohling of Afton, OK, and Nicholas Frohling of Springbrook, IA; grandchildren: Amy (Nicholas) Crouse of Dana, IA, Josh (Amber) Tvrdik of Slater, IA, Adam Paul of West Des Moines, IA, Christine (Jacob) Hilton of Oklahoma City, OK, David (Megan) Frohling of Peculiar, MO, and Reese ( Molly) Frohling of Bellevue, IA; great-grandchildren: Brayton and Colton Crouse, Emma Tvrdik, Conner Williams, Jayden, Jaxon, and Sloan Frohling, Lucy Molyneaux, and Lawrence Frohling; brother John (Joan) Tapper of Kamrar, IA; several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends. Bernece is preceded in death by her husband Michael Frohling; daughter Christine Frohling; grandchildren Aaron Paul, Michael Paul, and Kate Frohling; parents John and Emma Tapper; sisters Arlene White and Margie McCollough; brother Weldon Tapper.
