Greg Thomas Weidauer
(November 30, 1972 - January 1, 2023)

Greg T. Weidauer, age 50, of Pomeroy, passed away on Sunday, January 1, 2023 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa. Greg Thomas Weidauer was born November 30, 1972 to Tom and Janet (Peterson) Weidauer and grew up on the family farm with his brother and sister. Greg attended school in Pomeroy. At the age of 9, Greg was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis, a medical condition that could be treated with medication, foregoing certain foods, and yearly visits to the Mayo Clinic. He graduated from Pomeroy-Palmer in 1991. He attended Iowa Lakes Community College in Emmetsburg and earned a degree in farm management in 1993. He began farming full time in 1993 until his death working alongside his dad, brother, nephew, and son. He found love later in life and married Julie Goettsch on August 1, 2015. He was thrilled with the birth of their son, David Michael, on September 26, 2016. Greg loved to build with Legos and setting up many scaled toy farms, which began a large toy farm collection. He was smart, extremely hard working, and could build anything which created the quote "Weidauerized." He thoroughly enjoyed helping people. Greg loved teaching David about farming and everything it entailed, always willing to answer his questions. He was an active member of the Evangelical Covenant Church. Greg was diagnosed with colon cancer in April of 2020, but never complained and continued to be active on the farm up until his passing. Even on the days he didn’t feel well, he was still out working every day. He learned to live with the limitations that cancer presented until it ultimately claimed his life. He is survived by his wife, Julie and son, David of Pomeroy, his parents Tom and Janet Weidauer of Pomeroy, his brother Brent and Shana Weidauer of Humboldt, his sister Pam and Chad Greene of Bondurant, nephew Devon and Molly Weidauer of Belmond, Brendan Greene of Bondurant, nieces Ashlyn Weidauer (Jason Wood) of Bellevue, NE, Brooklyn and Carter Steck of Fort Dodge, Hannah Greene of Bondurant, and one great nephew, James Weidauer of Belmond. Also surviving him are in-laws, Lyle and Gloria Goettsch of Peterson, sister-in-law Kim and Erin Draper of Peterson, brother-in-law Darren Goettsch of Peterson, step-nieces Riley Draper and Reagan Draper of Paullina, and niece Olivia Draper of Peterson, along with aunts, uncles, cousins, family, and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Merle and Mildred Weidauer and Maynard and Izetta Peterson. Copyright Lampe & Powers Funeral Home, (712) 464-7665, https://www.powersfh.net
