(January 15, 1957 - August 18, 2023)

Mike Nelsen, age 66 of Lake City, IA, passed away on Friday, August 18, 2023, at his home in Lake City. Michael James was born on January 15, 1957, to parents James and Mary (Kalous) Nelsen in Lake City. He grew up in Lohrville, IA, where he attended grade school and graduated from Lohrville High School with the class of 1976. Mike worked for Iowa Road Builders in Des Moines, IA, Smithway Motor Xpress in Fort Dodge, IA, and became an over-the-road trucking owner and operator until his retirement in 2018. Mike enjoyed cars, watching his son’s race, and gambling. You could often find him calling his family and friends to go “peel ‘em” at the blackjack tables in Jefferson or out socializing around Lake City. Those left to cherish his memory include his children: Benjamin (Kim) Nelsen of Elkhart, IA, Stacie (Ryan) Riesenberg of Waukee, IA, and Tyler (Briana) Nelsen of Lohrville, IA; grandchildren: Kalen Nelsen and Rylie and Jacob Riesenberg; siblings: Chris (Deb) Nelsen of West Des Moines, IA, Patty (Brad) Lundquist of Johnston, IA, and Carl (Lori) Nelsen of Lohrville, IA.
