James Paul O'Mara
(June 28, 1936 - October 10, 2023)

James O’Mara, age 87 of Lake City, IA, passed away at his home on Tuesday, October 10, 2023. James Paul O’Mara was born on June 28, 1936, to parents Paul and Myra (Gobeli) O’Mara in Lake City. He grew up in Lake City where he graduated from high school with the class of 1954. After graduation, James enlisted to serve his country with the United States Air Force on May 2, 1954. He received the National Defense Service Metal and Good Conduct Metal and was honorably discharged on November 22, 1957. On November 19, 1977, James was united in marriage to Amelia Tyler at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He gained a daughter, Beverly, and they made their home in Lake City. James was a truck driver for 12 years, a farmer for 34 years, and later, a bus driver for Southern Cal School District and Opportunity Living. He loved being out in the community and socializing with others. James was a member of the American Legion, V.F.W., and Holy Name. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to many and will be dearly missed. Those left to cherish his memory include his stepdaughter Beverly Hollenbeck of Rockwell City, IA; grandchildren: Renee Hagan of Rockwell City, IA, Sandy Dole of Spencer, IA, and Alan Moulds of Bad Axe, MI; six great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sister: Mary (Justin) Janecek of Fremont, Nebraska, and nephews: Randy O'Mara, John O'Mara, Paul O'Mara, Robert O'Mara, Tom O'Mara, Larry Janecek, Lonnie Janecek, and extended family members.
