Louis Fred Heide
(March 29, 1921 - November 1, 2023)

Louis Fred Heide, age 102, of Pomeroy, passed away on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, at the Good Samaritan Society in Manson, Iowa. Louis was born March 29, 1921 on the farm near Pomeroy, Iowa, to Fred and Lena (Loots) Heide. He attended country school and graduated from Pomeroy High School in 1938. Louis farmed locally, and then worked in an aircraft plant for a year before entering the U.S. Navy in September of 1942. He served in the Southwest Pacific area and received an honorable discharge in April 1946. Louis married Vera Hudson at the Congregational Church in Fort Dodge on September 12, 1948. Louis and Vera were blessed to be married for 74 wonderful years. Louis farmed the farm his grandfather homesteaded in 1875, until retiring in 1987. Louis served on the Pomeroy church board, school board and the mall board. Louis was a lifelong member of the United Church of Christ, where he sang in the church choir for over 60 years. He also sang in the Pomeroy Quartet and the Manson, Pocahontas, and Pomeroy Choruses. Louis was also a longtime Chicago Cubs fan since he was 15 years old. Survivors include his sons, Brian (Linda) Heide of Rockwell City and Gregg Heide of Pomeroy; grandchildren, Curtis (Katharine) Heide of Johnston and Sarah (Brett) Bailey of Ankeny; great-granddaughter, Heide Bailey; sister-in-law, Marilyn Peterson, and many nieces and nephews.
