Pomeroy Herald, Pomeroy, Iowa, May 19, 1898, p.5
SPAWN – At the home of her son, Henry, in South Dakota, Sunday, May 15, 1898, Mrs. Temperance Spawn. The deceased will be remembered as one of the oldest settlers of Calhoun County where she lived until 1884, when, after the death of her husband, she went to live with her son, as stated above. She was the mother of eight children, six boys and two girls. Five of these are still living, the two daughters and one son having preceded her to the Great Beyond. The funeral services were held from the M. E. church of Pomeroy Tuesday morning at 10:30, and were attended by a few of her old time associates. Her eldest child, Henry, and her youngest child, Frank, were present at the funeral. The interment was made in Union Cemetery.
