Lawrence (Loss, Larry) D. O'Brien died in 1954. He was born in Hazel Green, Grant Co., Wi on January 22, 1874 to Dennis and Mary Kavanaugh (aka Cavanaugh) O'Brien. Their children: Mrs. John McDonald of Independence, John, Lt. Mitchell O'Brien (Spanish-American War); Marie, Anna, Elizabth (Bess), Judge Dennis of Omaha, and James.
He worked as a railroad depot agent and farmed (a meticulous farmer) until the Great Depression. In his later years, he took care of the Lake City parks. He was an Irish Shanachie (story-teller) and an expert on raising prize horses. He married Nellie Graham of Yetter, Ia. and they had seven children: Marilyn (Pat)--Mrs. Tom Melody; Marcella--Mrs. Delbert Johnson--; Maurice -dec.1934--; James Dennis; Bernard Raymond; Twins--Josephine Ann, and Genevieve Joyce. He loved early boxers, like Joe Louis, and early wrestlers like Frank Gotch. He was a very intelligent man, a kind and loving father, and had many friends in the Lake City area. He loved his children and grandchildren--- a praise he richly deserves.After funeral Mass at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lake City, and is buried in the Lake City Catholic cemetery.
