Death of S. D. DeBourgh

Swen Daniel DeBourgh, one of the oldest settlers of Elm Grove, died of Bright’s disease at his home on Tuesday, August 22, 1899. The funeral services were held at the house on Thursday at 10 a.m, by Rev. E. G. Keith of the M. E. Church. There was a large attendance of sympathizing friends who followed the remains to Lake City cemetery.

Mr. DeBourgh was born February 8, 1834, in Holmdahl, Sweden: his father and mother both died when he was quite young. He united with the Lutheran church when young and had remained a believer every since. He left Sweden and went to Norway, and remained there a few years, when in April, 1867, he was married to Miss Mattie Dahl. To this union six daughters and four sons were born. The same year he left Norway he went to Rockford Illinois, where he resided for four years. He then moved to Allamakee county, Iowa, and lived there three years.

In 1874 he came to Calhoun county, Iowa, where has been his residence until his death. He died at the age of 65 years, 6 months, 14 days. He leaves a wife, ten children and one sister to mourn the loss of a dear father and husband. He was respected citizen and neighbor and he will me missed in the community.
