Lewis Weideman Is Killed When Train Hits Auto

Lewis Weideman was killed and his brother, Arthur, severely injured Monday afternoon about 3:20 o'clock when the car in which they were riding was struck by a Rock Island passenger train directly in front of their home at what is known as the Coleman crossing, a few miles south of Manson. Lewis suffered injuries that resulted in his death a short time after the accident. Arthur Weideman sustained severe injuries, but will recover. The car was totally wrecked. At the time of the accident, the young men were returning home from Manson.

Louis had been to Rochester some time ago for an operation and had returned from accompanying his sister to Rochester for an operation. His brother met him at Manson with a new Oakland car the boys had recently purchased. They were within a few rods from home when they were struck but the train and the accident was witnessed by their father, who with a neighbor, was cutting hay nearby. It is presumed that the boys were not aware of the approach of the train and ran on the track ahead of it. The engine caught the car and carried it a few rods up the track, pinning Lewis underneath it. The car caught fire and Arthur, in spite of his injuries, managed to pull his brother from the wreckage. The train stopped as soon as possible, and the young men with their father, were taken to Manson for medical aid. Lewis died in the depot at Manson a few minutes after being taken from the train..
