OBITUARY

From the home of our fellow citizen Mr. Giles Evans, at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, in this city, occurred the funeral of his devoted wife. Again we ask ourselves the oft repeated question, “Why the cruel hand of Death is allowed to enter our homes unbidden, and snatch away the idol of our heart, and leave us stranded like a broken reed, at the very threshold of Life.” At first there would seem to come no answer but the echo of our own words; but a second thought causes us to see through our tears that the hand of a loving Father suffers death to unlock the casket, and set as liberty the spirit when under the affliction of the body we can endure no more.

The funeral services were conducted by Rev. E. E. Bennett, pastor the First Christian Church of Lake City, after which the remains were tenderly laid to rest in the cemetery near Lohrville. May God bless and comfort the sorrowing friends and relatives. Lura Bell Hough was born in Monroe county, Ia, Dec. 19, 1876. She with her father, after the death of her mother came to Farnhamville in 1891. She was united in marriage on Oct.. 10, 1900, to Giles Evans, and came to Lohrville where she resided until the death angel came to take her to her long home, Monday morning Nov. 4, 1901, having enjoyed her home with the choice of her youth but a little over one year. She departed this life in the very bloom of young womanhood, age 24 years, 10 months and 25 days. She leaves her father, one brother, two sisters and her husband to mourn their loss. –Enterprise.
