Charley Clouse

Charley Clouse of Webster County passed away at his home, Thursday , after a protracted illness from the effects of dropsy.

The deceased was born in Strassburg, Germany, in 1832. He came to this country in an early day, settling in the West.

He enlisted at Pike’s Peak, in Co. B. First regular volunteers, and served three and one half years, passing through all of the Indian Campaigns of that period.

In 1868, he moved to Iowa, and settled upon his old farm. After batching it for two years, he was united in marriage to Miss Waldburger, of Fort Dodge. To this union were born three sons, Frank, Albert, and Hiram, and two daughters, Mrs. Fannie Davis of Laurens, and Mrs. Annie Martin, who lives on the farm near the old home.

Besides his good wife, he leaves the sons and daughters, three of whom were here to attend the funeral. Mr. Clouse was a good citizen, a brave solider, and a successful businessman, leaving his family well provided for.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Manson, and the ceremony of the order was conducted at the grave in Rose Hill, by members of that body, Saturday afternoon.

Friends and neighbors extend their sympathy to the afflicted family in the hour of bereavement.
