1856-1930 Archives

Eliza Watson, the daughter of Robert and Nancy McAdoo Watson, was born in Berry county, Moneymore, Ireland, in 1856.

She came to America in 1881. On November 7, 1884, she was united in marriage to James Wilkie in Philadelphia, Pennsyhlvania.

To this union were born six children, Mrs. Martha Thompson Tevepaugh of Lake City; Robert, who died in infancy; Mrs. Margaret Andrews Glasgow, Mrs. Rebecca Madden, Miss Nancy McAdoo
Wilkie, and Mrs. Matilda Jane Howe, all of Lake City.

Mr. and Mrs. Wilkie came to Iowa in 1888 and after living one year at Lohrville they moved near Lake City where they have since lived, living most of the time on the farm where both Mr. and Mrs. Wilkie passed to their great reward.

When a young woman, Mrs. Wilkie began living the Christian life and throughout her whole life she has been a devoted and faithful worker in the home, in the community, and in the church. She lived a life that was rich both in faith and good works.

After an illness of a few weeks, she passed away at her home Friday evening, December 5, 1930 at the age of 74.

Her readiness to help, her cheerful disposition, and her upright and virtuous life made friends of all that she met. She truly was a friend to all.

Besides her own immediate family, she leaves to mourn her departure from this life her husband's sister, Mrs. Frank Kratz; eight grandchildren, a number of other relatives and a host of friends.

The funeral services were held in the Presbyterian church Monday afternoon at two o'clock. Rev. J. E. Spencer preached the sermon. Burial was made in the Cottonwood cemetery.
