CLARKSVILLE STAR, DEC 30, 1894
"David Philippi Scott died on Dec 30, 1894, born April 1872, aged 22 years, 8 months, and 3 days. He was born in Clarksville, April 27, 1872 and on Feb 13, 1891, was converted by Evangelist Bovee. He joined the Methodist Episcopal Church in full on Aug 23, 1891. In June, 1893, he decided to obey his convictions as to his life work and sought from that time to obtain an education preparatory for the ministry. On Dec 18th, he returned form the Nora Springs Seminary completely broken in health. He took to his bed and in a few days, his short life was ended. He obtained a license on Dec 15th and delivered his first message at a school house five miles southwest of Nora Springs. His last audible utterance before death was "He is King of salvation!" Funeral services were held at the M.E. church Tuesday to a packed house. The deceased was an earnest worker for the Epworth League Cause, and the League placed a handsome floral Maltese Cross and many a tear on his coffin. In the death of David Philippi Scott the old adage, "The good die young" is fully exemplified. He died of a stomach abscess. Burial in Old Town Cemetery, Clarksville, Jan 3, 1895."

David Philippi Scott was survived by his parents, Isaac & Sarah Philippi Scott, his Grandmother, Mary McMillan Philippi, his sisters, Mary Amy Scott Darby, Nellie V. Scott, & Jessie Scott; brother Roy Scott.
