Janet Rae Groeneveld, age 79, from Aplington, Iowa, was born the daughter of Clayton and Lucille (Mason) Chapman on February 16, 1943, in Cedar Falls, Iowa. She graduated from New Hartford High School in 1962.

On August 11, 1962, Janet was united in marriage with Donald Groeneveld at the United Methodist Church in New Hartford, Iowa. After marriage, the couple made their home on Don’s family farm south of Aplington, Iowa for 30 years before moving into Aplington. Throughout the years Janet worked as a homemaker and helped with life on the farm. She later worked for Denholm Jewelry in Parkersburg, Iowa and Hunt’s Fine Gifts in Ackley, Iowa.

Janet was a member of Aplington Baptist Church. She was a member of the Women’s Group, Couples Club, Youth Leader and taught AWANAs and Bible School. She enjoyed organizing and providing food for church events and serving on the flower committee.

In her spare time, she loved entertaining family and friends, cooking, baking, gardening, and canning. She also enjoyed collecting bells, precious moments, and penguins. Most of all she loved spending time with her family and going on adventures with her grandchildren.

On Friday, December 30, 2022, Janet passed away at Maple Manor Village in Aplington, of natural causes. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Donald Groeneveld (May 20, 2022); son, Cory Groeneveld (September 19,1994); sisters, Darlene Jordan, and Marian Christensen; and brothers, Kenneth Chapman, Donald Chapman, and Dean Chapman.

Janet is survived by one son, Troy Groeneveld of Cedar Falls, Iowa; two daughters, Melissa Groeneveld of Aplington, Iowa, and Brittany Groeneveld of Aplington, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Zachary, Matthew, Finley, Clayton, Cade, Jacob (Sammy) Groeneveld, Kayla Stirling, and MacKenzie Whitaker; four great grandchildren, Landon and Remington Groeneveld and Lilly and Lola Stirling; daughter-in-law, Shelly (Kevin) Meester of Parkersburg, Iowa; brothers Harold Chapman of New Hartford, Iowa, Larry (Carol) Chapman of New Hartford, Iowa, and Greg (Kathy) Chapman of Winterset, Iowa; sisters, Margaret Michaels of Waterloo, Iowa, Nancy Kahler of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Shirley Wiegand of Dubuque, Iowa, Rose Thorne of Parkersburg, Iowa, and Lynda Southard of Aplington, Iowa; and two sisters-in-law, Elaine Chapman of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Dorothy Chapman of Wonewoc, Wisconsin.

A Memorial Service was held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at the Aplington Baptist Church with Rev. Tom Detamore officiating. Organist Cami Haugstad accompanied the choir in singing, “It Is Well With My Soul”, “Blessed Assurance”, and “In The Garden”. Soloist Janice Jacobs performed, “In His Time”.

Visitation was held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., on Monday, at the Redman Funeral & Cremation Services, Aplington Chapel. Memorials may be directed to the family.
