C VERN WILLEY

Charles Vernon Willey was born July 1, 1903, in rural Union Township, Floyd County, a son of Al and Laura (Crouse) Willey and died Thursday, September 8, 1994, at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City of complications of age. (He died at his residence but was pronouced dead at the hospital)

He received his education in the rural schools near Packard and at an early age started farming with his father. On November 11, 1922, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Bye at Packard. The couple started farming on the family farm following his father's death that same year. (This is incorrect. They lived with Vern's parents and farmed with him, but his father did not die until 1927). They later farmed on four other farms in the Greene area until 1953, when they moved into town where he was employed by Schroeder Concrete.

In 1961 they moved to an acreage near Dumont where he managed the Dumont Discount Store and later did carpentry work. In 1975 they returned to Greene where he continued carpentry work. Following Dorothy's death in 1980, he officially retired and took up full time golf, playing cards, and fishing.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Greene and a member of Round Grove Country Club.

Living family members include two daughters, Judy Viggers and her husband Ken of Sioux City, and Ruth Knox of Osakis, Minnesota; one son, Dale and wife Edith of Ankeny; 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and five great-great- grandchildren.

He leaves to join his wife, parents and one brother, Lawrence Willey.

Memorials may be directed to the family.
