Clarksville’s Oldest Resident Dies

Clarksville lost its oldest resident when Louie Wedeking died at his home in Clarksville, Wednesday, February 9th , 1938. Louie Frederick Wedeking was born in Germany in 1841, and was at the time of his death, 97 years, one month and 19 days of age. He came to America when 18 years of age and settled in Clayton County, Iowa. He was married to Christina Kretchmeyer, who preceded him in death many years. He was then married to Louisa Lohring, also of Clayton County, but moved to Butler county shortly thereafter and lived in this community for 67 years. He was the father of eight children, 6 daughters and 2 sons, all of whom survive. They are Mrs. August Wedeking, Mrs. Minnie Smith, and Fred Wedeking of Clarksville; Mrs. John Bush and Alfred Wedeking of Nashua; Mrs. George Bosh, Waverly: Mrs. Reichart, Waterloo; and Mrs. Carl Clausing, California. His wife preceded him by 20 years. He leaves beside his children, 33 grand children and 46 great grand children; and 1 great great grandchild. Mr. Wedeking was a member of the Evangelical church. Services were held from the late home at 1:30 o’clock, Saturday, February 12, and from the church at 2 o’clock with Rev. Satory officiating. Six grandchildren acted as pall bearers and interment was made in the Pleasant Valley cemetery.
