Waverly Independent—Last Thursday Mr. and Mrs. Perkins and son Lawrence of Allison came over to the Maccabee picnic and to visit at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Poorman. At about five o’clock Lawrence, in company with four other boys of about the same age, went to the river north of town to swim. None of the boys could swim but they were wading about and trying to swim. The others noticed that Lawrence was getting out where it was too deep to wade and they cautioned him but he seemed to be unable to control himself and waded out to where the water was beyond his depth and sank. The other boys ran for assistance but he was in the water about an hour before found. He was 11 years of age and a bright and active boy.
