Obituary

Mrs. W.C. Gough, Clarkfield, Minn., after more than a year of suffering following injuries received in an auto accident, passed to her heavenly home at the Dawson hospital, Saturday morning, May 29, 1926, aged 64 years, 8 months and 11 days. Everything that skill and loving hands could do in order that she might recover was done. Her husband and daughter, Mrs. E.P. Squire, and the faithful nurses were at her bedside when the end came. The circumstances and criminal carelessness on the part of the young people who figured in the accident which caused deceased a year of torture ending in death should be a warning to all who are like minded. The facts have stated from time to time. Mr. Gough, although able to be about, has not recovered from the injuries received at the time his wife was fatally injured.

Sarah Ida Betzer, daughter of Peter and Kathryn Betzer was born at Mt. Vernon, Iowa, September 18, 1861. She had three sisters and three brothers. Two sisters, Mrs. Eliza Playter and Mrs. Mary Playter, her father and mother have preceeded her to the great beyond. At the age of 13 she came with her parents to Bristow, Iowa, where she lived for thrity-three years. She early in life became a Christian and was faithful until death.

March 21, 1880, she was married to William Clark Gough, son of Rev. and Mrs. William Gough, Bristow. To this union were born three children, Earl of Clarkfield, Blanche, Mrs. E.P. Squire, Hanley Falls, and Harry of Alexander, Minn. These with the husband, mourn the untimely death of one whose every act was prompted by love for her family and home. No task for her loved ones was ever a duty.

February 20, 1901, she removed with her family from Bristow to a farm east of Clarkfield, Minn., where they resided until May 15, 1925, when they were the victims of the accident, and since which time she has never been able to return to the home she so dearly loved. The Sunday before she passed away, she called her husband and children for a parting message, admonishing them to not forget their father in his declining years, and the they all be true to the God she loved and served and that she would soon see face to face. She said, "It is not an easy thing to die, but I am not afraid, for I am going to be with Jesus." The funeral was from the Norwegian Lutheran church, on Tuesday, June 1st. Rev. O.F. Krause, Minneapolis, preached from Genesis. He paid tribute to deceased, based on virtues and devotion to her Lord. "No Shadows in Heaven" was sung by a personal friend.

The immediate family was at the funeral. Other relatives attending from a distance were: Willima Betzer, wife and daughter, Sioux City; Mrs. Etta Law and Mrs. Jennie Law, Bronson and Mrs. B.H. Corey, Bristow. A host of friends from Alexander, Granite Falls, Montevideo, Dawson, and many nearby towns, who came as a last tribute of esteem for the departed and her family. Beautiful flowers spoke of their loving sympathy. Interment was in the Clarkfield cemetery.
