Charlton J Gould – May 11, 1871 – February 5, 1942

CHARLTON J. GOULD DIES IN NORA SPRINGS AT HOME OF SISTERS

Nora Springs – Charlton J Gould, 71, died here at 7:30 Thursday morning at the home of his sisters, Beulah and Mable Gould, where he had made his home for the past three years.

Private funeral services were held Friday at the Sheckler Funeral Home in Nora Springs, after which the body was sent away for cremation. Burial will be in Park Cemetery.

The oldest son of J. W. and Alice Gould, Mr. Gould was born May 11, 1871, at Shell Rock. He came to Nora Springs while a small boy and when he was about 18, he went to Northwood where he operated a hardware store for a number of years. He married Minta Phillips there about 45 years ago.

He and his wife took up residence on a claim near Ft. Pierre, South Dakota, after leaving Northwood, and he worked in a hardware store there for several years. They moved to Vancouver, British Columbia from South Dakota, and he was in business there until moving to Omak, Washington, where he ran a grocery store for over 20 years. He returned to Nora Springs about three years ago when Mrs. Gould died.

Survivors are three sisters, Mable and Beulah Gould of Nora Springs and Mrs. Ed Bitterman of Mora, Minnesota; one son, Arthur P. Gould of Seattle, Washington; a granddaughter; Mrs. Dale Matte of Nora Springs; and two great grandchildren.
