Bernice L. Wilder was born near Bristow on December 29, 1900, a daughter of Samuel A. and Ella (Graham) Overturf; and passed away March 6, 1997 in Newport News, VA at the home of her daughter, Doris, and son-in-law, Roscoe Crickenberger, where she resided for the past 9 years. She received her education in Bristow and the University of Northern Iowa. She taught school and later became a Licensed Practical Nurse in Waverly and Cedar Falls. Bernice was united in marriage to Fred O. Wilder on May 16, 1923 in Bristow, and resided in Butler County most of her life. Fred passed away February 1, 1937. Bernice was a member of United Methodist Church in Bristow, and her pastimes were scrapbooks, photo albums, and she kept a diary for most of her life. She also enjoyed crocheting and tatting. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Hollis Overturf of Cedar Falls; one daughter, Valda Shew of Sheridan, Wyoming; and one granddaughter, Nylene L. Ellis of Riceville, IA. Bernice is survived by one daughter, Doris and Roscoe Crickenberger of Newport News, VA; two sisters, Thelma Mehmen of Plainfield, and Fleta Griner of Clarksville; six grandchildren: Mrs. Joe (Nadean) Dralle of Clarksville, Earl Shew of Montana, Gary Crickenberger of Williamsburg, VA, Mrs. Thomas (Claire) Kimmel of Smithfield, VA, and Robert and William Crickenberger of Newport News, VA; five great-grandchildren: Rachel Mortenson of Bloomington, Indiana; Gwendalyn Dralle of Clarksville; Cheryl and Kevin Dralle of Clarksville, and Bobbie Jo Feidley of Smithfield, VA. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 7, 1997 at the Bristow United Methodist Church with Rev. Kate Bell officiating. Burial was made at Oak Hill Cemetery in rural Bristow. Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Allison was in charge of the arrangements.
