Frieda Donaldson, age 102, of Parkersburg, Iowa, was born the daughter of William and Kate (Kettwig) Wallbaum on July 25, 1908, on a farm north of Parkersburg, Butler County, Iowa.

She received her education from a rural country school near her home. Frieda and her family lived in Minnesota for about three years during her childhood.

On September 19, 1931, Frieda was united in marriage with James Stanley Donaldson at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They made their home on the family farm near Chapin, Iowa and through the years they also farmed near Parkersburg, Iowa. Frieda was a dedicated wife, loving mother and was a hard working farm wife. In 1951 they moved and farmed near Hampton, Iowa, where Frieda also worked at the Olson Bakery for several years. They returned once again to Parkersburg where they built their new home in 1959.

Frieda was long-time member of the First Congregational Church in Parkersburg and was a member of the Ladies Guild and Missionary Society. In her spare time she enjoyed doing paint by numbers, embroidery, and crocheted lots of afghans and doilies. She also enjoyed visiting with her friends.

Frieda died Thursday, September 30, 2010, at the Maple Manor Village in Aplington, of natural causes.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Stanley Donaldson on October 8, 1993; her parents; three sisters, infant twins and Anna Wallbaum; and three brothers, Harm, William and Joe.

Frieda is survived by one son, Marvin (Audrey) Donaldson of Blue Springs, Missouri; one daughter, Jane Thomas of Parkersburg, Iowa; three grandchildren, Marvin Jr., Kevin (LuDene) and Cynthia; three great-grandchildren; three great great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Leona Wallbaum; one niece; and three nephews.

Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, at the First Congregational Church with burial in the Oak Hill Cemetery both in Parkersburg.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, at the Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home in Parkersburg, and one hour before services at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the family of Frieda Donaldson.

Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home in Parkersburg is in charge of arrangements.
