Services Held For Claude L. Huisinga, 92
Claude Lawrence Huisinga of 716 Caldwell, Aplington, was born the son of Heit and Anna Abbas Huisinga on July 14, 1890, in Butler County, West of Aplington. He attended rural school near his home.
On September 5, 1925, Claude was united in marriage to Edith Keiser in Elgin, IA. They farmed near Aplington, until moving to their present home in Aplington in 1955. He served in the U.S. Army during WWI, and was the oldest WWI veteran living in Butler County.
Claude was baptized in the Aplington Baptist Church on April 3, 1921. He was a member of the church, served as a Trustee and Deacon, and was chairman of the building committee.
Claude died at 7:20 p.m., Saturday, December 25, 1982, in Maple Manor Nursing home in Aplington where he was a resident for about 5 years. He reached the age of 92 years, 3 months, and 20 days.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, December 28, 1982, in the Aplington Baptist Church with Rev. Donald Patet officiating. Mrs. Becky Ostercamp was the organist and Joyce and Joel Frey sang “Some Golden Day Break” and “In the Garden.”
Casketbearers were Daniel, Timothy, Wesley, Howard, Randall and Lyle Huisinga. Interment followed in Pleasant View Cemetery, rural Aplington, IA, with military rites conducted by Aplington Amvet Post 102.
Schwartz-Engelkes Funeral Chapel in Aplington was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
He is survived by his wife, Edith Huisinga of Aplington; three sons, Paul Huisinga and his wife Lucy of rural Parkersburg, Gordon Huisinga and his wife Betty of Wishek, ND, and Merlyn Huisinga and his wife Burdell of rural Aplington; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and his sister, Mrs. Anna Feldick of Buffalo Center, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
