George R. Ibeling, age 87, of Ackley, died on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at the Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.

Memorial services will be 2:30 P.M. Sunday, August 1st at the First Presbyterian Church in Ackley with inurnment in the Oakwood Cemetery, Ackley.

Family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. until service time at the church on Sunday. The Sietsema Funeral Home in Ackley is in charge of arrangements.

George Richard Ibeling was born on November 10, 1922 on a farm in Butler County, Iowa, the son of John and Tena (Burma) Ibeling.

He attended country school and graduated from the Dumont High School. On July 11, 1948, George was united in marriage to LaVerne Quandahl in Decorah. He served in the U.S. Air Force. He worked for the Iowa Highway Patrol for two years and owned Ibeling Insurance and Real Estate for approximately 50 years. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Ackley, the Elliott-Keninger Post #252 of Ackley, Mason Lodge at Ackley, the Rotary Club of Ackley and was a past President of the Chamber of Commerce. He was a conservationist and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

George is survived by his wife, LaVerne; a grandson, Daniel Ibeling and his wife, Mary of Denver; a granddaughter, Janelle Ibeling and her fiancé, Cory Kinnetz of Iowa Falls; four brothers, Robert Ibeling and his wife, Doris of Ackley, Donald Ibeling and his wife, Mary of Mesa, AZ, John Ibeling and his wife, Patricia of Ackley, and Dale Ibeling and his wife, Leda Mae of Ackley; and a daughter-in-law, Debra Ibeling Swanson and her husband, Dave of Ackley.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sons, Neil and Max Ibeling.
