CEDAR FALLS - Mabel E. Powell, 90, formerly of the Western Home Communities and rural New Hartford, died Friday, Oct. 16, at Windsor Nursing and Rehab Center.

She was born Nov. 29, 1918, on a farm east of New Hartford, daughter of Jens and Elna Christensen. She married Allan Powell on Dec. 4, 1942, at Camp Carson, Colorado Springs, Colo. He preceded her in death Aug. 19, 2007.

She graduated from Cedar Falls High School, attended Gates Business College and worked as a bookkeeper at Holst Printing in Cedar Falls.

Mrs. Powell farmed with her husband in Dysart, Hudson, Colo., returning to New Hartford in 1954. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Parkersburg, where she taught Sunday School and Bible School.

Survived by: four daughters, Elaine M. (David) Reents and Jan K. (Jim) Cox, both of Wellsburg, and Marilyn J. Powell and Marcia D. Laudick, both of Waterloo; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Velda LeMay of Springfield, Ill.

Preceded in death by: two sisters, Margaret Cantine and Virginia Sorensen; a brother, Howard Christensen; and a son-in-law, Jim Boelman.

Services: 1 p.m. Tuesday at Western Home Communities Chapel, with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery, Parkersburg. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Richardson Funeral Home, and for an hour before services Tuesday at the chapel.

Memorials: may be directed to Calvary Baptist Church, Parkersburg, or the American Cancer Society.
