GREENE: A Funeral Mass for Cecilia Maxson, 101, of 11th St. Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City, will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 6, 2010, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Greene, with Rev. Msgr. Walter Brunkan officiating.

Burial will be in the St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Greene.

Visitation will be 4:00 - 7:00 p.m., Friday, March 5, 2010, at Reid’s Funeral Chapel, 519 N. First St. Greene. The Catholic Daughters of the Americas will conduct a Rosary Service at 6:00 p.m. followed by a Scriptural Wake Service. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to services on Saturday.

Cecilia Nettelton was born April 12, 1908, in Coldwater Township, Butler Co., Iowa a daughter of Frank and Hannah I. (McDermott) Nettelton and died Monday, March 1, 2010, at the 11th St. Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City, Iowa. She received her education in the Sacred Heart Academy in Greene. Following graduation she attended St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in Mason City where she earned her RN Degree.

She was united in marriage to Lowell E, (Hop) Maxson on October 9, 1937. To this union was blessed one daughter, Sandra.

Before marriage she did private duty nursing. During WWII she worked in Dr. MacLeod’s Office in Greene. She also taught a class in home nursing.

She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Greene, the Daughters of the Americas, St. Lucy’s Circle. Cecilia served as the first President of St. Mary Guild when it began in 1962.
She was a former member of the Butler County Cancer Society, the Greene Planning Board, and was clerk of the Election Board for many years.

Cecilia is survived by her daughter: Sandra ( Erick) Seim of Cathedral City, CA; special nephew, Michael (Paulette) Maxson of Greene, many nieces and nephews around the country.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lowell in 1996; her parents;
Brothers: Louis, Bob, and Tom; Sisters: Mayme, Monica and Florence.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to the Cecilia Maxson Memorial Fund, 29869 W. Laguna Dr. , Cathedral City, CA 92234.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Chapel, 519 N. First St. Greene.
