Marjorie Thorne, age 83, of Allison, Iowa, was born January 5, 1927, the daughter of Joe and Kate (Miller) Eckhoff at home in rural New Hartford, Butler County, Iowa. She received her education in the New Hartford Schools.

Marjorie was united in marriage with James Arthur Thorne on February 22, 1946, in the home of her parents, Joe and Kate Eckhoff in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Following their marriage they lived and farmed in the Austinville, Parkersburg, Aplington and Allison areas. After they retired from farming, they moved into Allison.

Marjorie was a homemaker and helped with the farming. She was also a Certified Nurses Aide, and worked for 31 years at the nursing home in Allison where she retired in 2003.

Marjorie was a member of Trinity Reformed Church in Allison where she was a member of the Ladies Circle and helped with soup suppers and funeral lunches. She was also a contact person on the church prayer chain. She loved to be outdoors working with her garden and flowers, especially her roses. She enjoyed family reunions and Figure 8 Races. Most of all, she enjoyed watching and spending time with her grandchildren.

Marjorie died Sunday, February 28, 2010, at the Rehabilitation Center of Allison in Allison, Iowa, of natural causes.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Thorne on September 26, 1999; one granddaughter, Nicole Thorne; one sister, Bernice Beenken and an infant brother.

Marjorie is survived by one daughter, Judy (Raymond) Kuiper, Lewiston, Minnesota; four sons, Dale (Kenyan) Thorne, Phoenix, Arizona; Darrell Thorne, Allison, Iowa; David (Kelly) Thorne, Allison, Iowa; Dennis (Brenda) Thorne, Allison, Iowa; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; one great-great grandchild; and one sister, JoAnn (Robert) Spencer, Faulkner, Iowa.

Funeral Services will be 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 3, 2010, at the Trinity Reformed Church in Allison. Burial will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery in Parkersburg.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday at the Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home in Parkersburg, and continue for one hour prior to services at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the family of Marjorie.
