M. Feyereisen Passes Away

DIED:--At his home in this city, Wednesday, Oct. 29, 1902, aged 67 years, 10 months, and 19 days.

Mathias Feyereisen was born at Kasspelt, Luzemburg, Dec. 10, 1834. He was married to Mary Didien, Jan. 1, 1868. They came to this country in October 1877, and resided here until his death.

He was the father of ten children: Kate, Anna, Nicholas (deceased), Katherine, John, Henry, Magdalene, Margaret, William, and Theresa.

The funeral was held at St. Mary's church Friday morning, with the obsequious [sic], pomp and solemnity that the Catholic ceremonial has for her dead. The grandeur of the services, as well as that of the church on such sad occaions, was in every way worthy of the deceased parent, an old and far respected pioneer of faith fatherland, whose devotion and zeal for his home, his God and his country were such as could only spring from motives grounded on solid and fixed principles and certain convictions that sweetened his life unto death. He loved the home of his birth as a child loves its mother; he loved and was faithful to his adopted country as a husband loves his wife, to whom he pledges his troth, his fidelity and his love; and loved, as many could observe by his constant actions, his church and the practice of his religion, as he loved his God and yearned with the hope of an eternal reward. He loved his children and worked hard for them, whilst young and old. He watched over them day and night, always took a pride in their growth and advancement, longed to see them prosperous and happy, and now at his last hour when he himself had good reason to be satisfied and contented he goes away to the unknown beyond, leaving behind him a name and character that none will ever be ashamed of, a family of children that is worthy of so good a father, that will cherish his memory with the sweetest affection and preserve for their honest and faithful parent undying love. He had many friends as was evidenced from the seating capacity of St. Mary's church and the large cortege that followed him to the grave. Many speak kind words for him and offer their sympathy to his sorrowing wife and children.

Father Sheehy was Celebrant of the Mass; Father Dougherty of Waverly, Deacon, and Father Reilly of Dougherty, Sub-Deacon. The sermon was preached by Father Dougherty and was in keeping with the occasion and worthy of the deceased.
