At the age of 17 he left his old home, came to America and settled here in Pleasant Valley, near Clarksville, among his old friends and acquaintances. On February 27, 1890, he was united in holy matrimony to Miss Wilhelmine Buesching. This happy union was severed after thirty-eight years when death entered and took the beloved wife and mother. Four sons and three daughters were the blessing of this union. Their home was for many years one mile west of Plainfield, where they pursued prosperous farming, and after the death of his wife, Mr. Deike moved to Plainfield. He has always been concerned in the welfare of his family. He also was a faithful and reliable member of the Evangelical church in Pleasant Valley, and beloved by all who knew him. Last Saturday, a week ago he took sick and although everything was done to save his life, he passed away Thursday evening, February 26, at 9:45 p.m. in the home of his son Hugo and family, at the age of 63 years, 4 months, and 29 days. He leaves to mourn for sons, three daughters, three sons-in-laws, four daughters-in-laws, nineteen grandchildren, two brothers and many other relatives and friends. On Sunday afternoon, March 1st, his body was laid to rest in the Pleasant Valley cemetery after funeral services at the church nearby. The sermons were held in two languages.
