Iowa Recorder, The (Greene, Iowa) > 1914 > February > 11

One of the largest social events of the season was that at the home of Mr. and Mrs. T.A. Gough Thursday evening, Feb. 5th, the occassion being to witness the marriage of their daughter, Miss Esther Estell, to Mr. Claude A. Goodsell. Before the appointed hour the spacious rooms in this hospitable and pretty country home were filled with guests there being over one hundred, who had responded to the invitation to be present. At eight o'clock to the strains of a wedding march as rendered on the piano by Mrs. Frank Goodsell of Canby, Minn., the wedding party entered the parlor and took their places in the southeast corner, which had been decorated with roses for the occasion. The bride was attended by Miss Delight Walsh of Clarksville, while Joe Gough, Jr., a cousin of the bride, attended the groom, and Rev. Joseph Gough, uncle of the bride read the marriage service, after which he introduced Mr. and Mrs. Goodsell, who received hearty congratulations. The bride wore a very becoming gown of Alice blue messaline silk, trimmed with white lace and a bouquet of carnations was fastened at the belt and reached to the bottom of her dress, while her gloves and slippers were white. Miss Walsh was dressed in a pretty gown of champagne color, and white trimmings, gloves, etc. There were many beautiful gifts of silverware, cut glass and table linen in evidence, besides many other things of a useful and ornamental nature, seven young lady friends of the bride, all dressed in white, served a most excellent and complete wedding supper in three courses, on trays. The rooms were nicely decorated, white being the prevailing color. Both these young people have lived in this vicinity all of their lives and are well and favorably known. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ansel Goodsell. Both are graduates of our public school and have taught in the country schools the last year or for a few months. This year they will make their home with Mr. and Mrs. Gough, the groom helping with the farm work. It is there they will be at home to their friends; who are many.
