Professor W. T. Hunt was born in Butler township, Butler county, Iowa, December 1, 1875, and is a son of H. D. and Sarah A. (Husband) Hunt, who were early settlers of this county. His education was received in the district schools of his native county, supplemented by four terms at the State Normal School, and two years at Cornell College. His first school was taught in Jackson township, before he was eighteen years of age. Since that time he has taught fourteen terms. In the fall of 1882 he was appointed principal of the West Shell Rock Schools, and in the winter of 1882-3 was engaged to teach a district school, in Shell Rock township, some five miles from the village.
