Henry Dreyer was born in Germany, October 19, 1852, where he received his education. In 1865 he came with his parents to America, and settled in Stephenson county, Illinois, where he engaged in farming. In 1869, he and his brother started with three teams, overland, for Grundy county, Iowa, where his father had bought land. They broke several acres, and returned to Illinois. In the fall of that year the family moved to Grundy county. In 1874 he entered Monee College, in Will county, Illinois, attending two years, when he received a certificate as teacher, and engaged teaching in the schools of Grundy county. In 1877 he came to Aplington, and engaged as clerk in G. B. White’s store; was with him until 1879, when he engaged in the lumber and grain business, in company with Robert Wright, and continued with him one year. In 1880 the firm of H. Reints & Company was formed, Mr. Dryer being one of the firm.
