Charles M. Ransom is a native of Pennsylvania, born in 1840. In 1850 the family migrated to Carroll county, Illinois, where the subject of this sketch helped till the soil until 1867. He then came to Butler county, and in 1873, settled where he now resides.

In 1869, he married Miss Ellen Beetle, daughter of Andrew Beetle, and they now have seven children-Elsie, Andrew, Orval, Susan, Lydia, Mary and Angelina.
