Woman feted at 100th-year bash

Anna "Louise" Jackson celebrated her 100th birthday June 3 with more than 100 friends and family members at Mount Rubidoux Manor in Riverside, (CA) where she lives. Helping her celebrate were her daughter and son-in-law, Janyce and Richard Nist.

Louise was born June 3, 1903, on a farm near Greene, Iowa, to John and Emma Hubeler. Her parents were farmers. She was the oldest of six brothers and three sisters. Louise helped raise her siblings and made sure they did their chores. Growing up, she loved the many evenings of singing and dancing where she would play the pump organ and her father played his accordion.

When Louise was 13, the family moved to a larger farm near Haugen, Wis. She dropped out of high school to stay home and help her mother raise the children.

When she was 17, she attended a teaching college and received her teaching certificate. She taught kindergarten through eighth grade in a one-room schoolhouse. Louise moved to Riverside in 1924 and attended Riverside Business College. She worked various clerical jobs until getting married.

Louise met George Jackson in Riverside at a dance in 1927. They were married a year later. George was a barber.

They had one son, William, before moving to Loveland, Ohio, in the early 1930's. There they had a second child, a daughter, Janyce. The family moved back to Riverside in the late 1930s.

On their return, George worked as a salesman for a building supply company which led to the ownership of Jackson Roofing Co.

After George's death in 1962, Louise managed several apartment buildings and baby-sat the children of friends. She was a volunteer at Dale's Senior Center for 20 years. She moved into Mount Rubidoux Manor in 1979.

Louise continues to walk a half mile daily and attends an exercise class weekly. She enjoys visiting with friends.

She has 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
