Michael Niece, a Dutchman, came here from Wisconsin at about the same time as (August) Coon, planting his pioneer stakes around the southwest quarter of section 34. At this time Mike was a single man; he built a little log hut, and afterwards married Miss Ingall. Ten years later he removed to Shell Rock, where he still lives.
