The first to enter into mercantile business was the firm of Fletcher Moore and Charles Grasley, who rented a small building just south of the Allison Hotel, and on the 20th of January, 1880, opened for business with a small stock of general merchandise, mostly groceries. Mr. Moore now carries on the business, occupying his own corner block, and doing a thriving trade in groceries and farming machinery.

He is a young man who has the confidence of the people, born at Belvidere, Illinois. He was engaged as clerk for one year in a dry good store at Harvard, Illinois, coming to Butler county November 1, 1879. His father, Francis Moore, was an early settler of Boone county, Illinois.
