George E. Meade is a son of J. H. and Sarah (Albright) Meade, and was born in Greenbush, Sheboygan county, Wisconsin, November 23, 1853. He remained in his native county until 1870, when the family moved to Shell Rock, Iowa. Upon their arrival the subject of this sketch worked on his father’s farm until about 1875, when he commenced to learn the trade of blacksmithing. In 1880 he was taken in partnership with W. J. Reed, under the firm name of Reed & Meade. He is a single man.
