Storm Lake Pilot Tribune - January 5, 1939 - George H Eastman, 92, influential in Storm Lake in pioneer days passed away at his home in Long Beach, CA Dec 24, according to word just received by friends here. Mr and Mrs Eastman moved from Storm Lake to California in 1936.

Mr Eastman is remembered as the first male school instructor in Storm Lake and was school principal in 1872. According to historical records, he was assistant cashier of the Dean & Harker State Bank in 1877. This bank became known as the First National Bank in 1901 and Mr Eastman was associated with it at the time. He wrote the first set of abstract books of Storm Lake. He later sold them to (can't read name) and George Schaller.

The first Jersey cattle in Buena Vista county were brought in by railroad by Mr Eastman for the farm near Storm Lake now occupied by Glen Geisinger.

Interested in education, Mr Eastman worked among the people of Buena Vista college and was instrumental in building the college dormitory which burned years later. When a very young man living in Massachusetts he and several companions organized the first circulating library, consisting of 500 books in their community.

Mr Eastman is survived by his second wife, who before his marriage to Mr Eastman was Mrs Mary E McCall. The body will be brought to Storm Lake in the spring and will be placed in the Storm Lake cemetery beside his first wife.
