Wanda Fernn Steward
June 16, 1924 - September 13, 2013

Wanda Fernn Steward, a daughter of Warn and Susie Hayes Goodin, was born on June 16, 1924, near Elkader, Clayton County, Iowa. After graduating from Marathon High School, she went on to attend Upper Iowa University in Fayette, Iowa.

Wanda married Johnnie Steward on July 17, 1943, in Elk Point, South Dakota. She worked for Woolworth's, The Beehive, J.C. Penny, and Sears and taught school as well. A member of the First Christian Church in Spencer, she also belonged to the Christian Women’s Fellowship. She enjoyed teaching Sunday school, writing and reading poetry, traveling, sewing, working with flowers, doing puzzles, playing cards and spending time with family.

Wanda passed away on Friday, September 13, 2013, at the Milford Nursing Center in Milford, Iowa, at the age of 89. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Jonathan Steward; three brothers, Warren, Walter, and William Goodin; two sisters, Lillian Sandstrom and Maxine Blankenburg.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Johnnie, of Fostoria, Iowa; one son, Daniel (Patti) Steward, of Brighton, Colorado; one daughter, Kathleen Shatto (Gale Jacobson), of Fostoria, Iowa; eight grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Gladys Kamoss, of Pocono Mountains, Pennsylvania; as well as other relatives and many friends.

SERVICES: Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Thursday, September 19, 2013, at the First Christian Church in Spencer, Rev. Dan Mayes officiating.

CASKET BEARERS: Kerry Lancaster, Brent Shatto, Todd Steward, Jody Shatto, Tracey Gunnarson, Seth Shatto, Chance Steward.

HONORARY CASKETBEARERS: Casey Steward, Kelly McKillop, Kurt Lancaster, Matt Black.

VISITATION: Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the First Christian Church in Spencer.

MUSIC: “Amazing Grace,” “How Great Thou Art.”

INTERMENT: Barnes Township Cemetery, Linn Grove, Iowa.
