Anna L. Hogrefe
February 28, 1918 - September 09, 2013

Storm Lake, Iowa

Anna L. Hogrefe, age 95, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on September 9, 2013, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Anna Louise Lullmann was born on February 28, 1918, in Storm Lake, Iowa, the daughter of John and Martha (Sievers) Lullmann. Baptized on March 17, 1918, at the Zion Lutheran Church in rural Storm Lake and confirmed there as well on March 20, 1932, she attended school at Zion Lutheran School through the eighth grade.

On January 16, 1941, Anna married Martin Edward Hogrefe at Zion Lutheran Church. They were blessed with five children: Vernon, Robert, Norman, Myrna, and Arlo.

A lifelong member of the Zion Lutheran Church, Anna participated in many church activities. She was a member of the Farm Bureau Women, an exhibitor for the Buena Vista County Fair, winning mostly blue ribbons, a strong supporter of Zion and Concordia Lutheran Parochial Schools, and a member of the local Seward Guild of Concordia College of Seward, Nebraska.

In her spare time, Anna enjoyed quilting, sewing, crocheting, and tatting. She loved gardening and canning the vegetables from her garden. She had a passion for music, especially playing the piano and organ. She was also anxiously awaiting the publication of a book called Saturday Night Baths & Sunday Dinners, published by Hometown Memories. The book included an article she had written about the good ole days. It will be released in October.

Greatly treasuring her family, Anna valued the time she was able to spend with them, especially with her twenty-one great-grandchildren. She called them her “little sweethearts.” She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children and grandchildren: Bob (Rose), Jeremy (Jennifer), Elizabeth, and Zachary Hogrefe, all of Eagle Grove, Iowa; Chad (Amy), Tate, and Maya Hogrefe, of LeMars, Iowa; Arlo, Cody, Derek (Barb), Loggan, Addyson, Morgann, Troy (Andrea), Elli, Madelyn, Drew, and Bryce Hogrefe, all of Storm Lake, Iowa; Jaden (Heather), Gavin, and Keatyn Lorenzen, of Larchwood, Iowa; Myrna (Roger) Lorenzen, of Storm Lake, Iowa; Cory (Keri), Mason, and Carson Lorenzen, of Cannon Falls, Minnesota; Hollie (Matt) and Joseph Sewick, of Lake City, Iowa; Melissa (Nathan), Tristan Bainum, Makayli, Makenzie, and Ashton Snyder, of Alta, Iowa; and Tiffany (Dave) and Ava Stern, of Storm Lake, Iowa; her daughter-in-law, Lynn Hogrefe, of Storm Lake, Iowa; and her sisters and brothers-in-law: Norma (Arnold) Otto and Edna Rebhuhn, of Albert City, Iowa; as well as extended family members and friends.

Anna was preceded in death by her parents, John and Martha Lullmann; her husband, Martin E. Hogrefe, in 1992; an infant son, Vernon Hogrefe; a son, Norman Hogrefe; three grandchildren in infancy: John and Lisa Hogrefe (children of Bob and Rose Hogrefe) and Wendy Hogrefe (daughter of Norm and Lynn Hogrefe); her sisters- and brothers-in-law: Hilda and Albert Hogrefe, Tillie and Vic Bartels, and Lea and Fred Kreutz; her brother and sister-in-law, John and Alura Lullmann; her parents-in-law, Charles and Anna Hogrefe; and her brother-in-law, Ray Rebhuhn.
