Wilma "Chris" Widman, age 93, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Tuesday, January 23, 2018, at the Good Samaritan Society in Newell.

Wilma Christina Miller, a daughter of George William and Margaret Ellen (Masters) Miller, was born on October 18, 1924, in Pilger, Nebraska. In the coming years, she would attend Pilger High School and graduate in 1942. Then, on November 1, 1942, she married Fredrick Bade in Stanton, Nebraska. Subsequently, they were blessed with nine children: Margaret Mary, Christina, Joy, John, Gloria, James, Andrew, Charles, and Frank.

After Fred’s passing, Chris married Gerald Widman on February 5, 1983, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake. A very faithful woman, she attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church where she participated in St. Mary’s Caritas Choir while married to Gerald. The past few years, however, she attended Bethel Baptist Church in Newell.

In her younger years, Chris served as a den mother for the cub scouts. Her children have many memories “leg wrestling” with their mother. Chris, also, enjoyed taking pictures, caring for her cats, feeding the birds, and singing all genres of music. She loved the outdoors, tending to her garden and flowers. An avid sports fan, she would cheer on the St. Louis Cardinals and watch Iowa basketball. Most of all, however, Chris loved her family and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Christina (Gaylen) Roskens, of Sanborn, Iowa, Joy (Richard) Waggoner, of Newell, Iowa, John (Marcia) Bade, of Boone, Iowa, Gloria Bade, of Sioux City, Iowa, James Bade, of Denver, Colorado, Charles (Julie) Bade, of Aurora, Colorado, and Frank Bade, of Newell, Iowa; fourteen grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; her sister, Ellen Conrad, of San Diego, California; Gerald’s family: Rick Widman, Mary Ann (Randy) Johnson, Jean (Scott) Miksch, and Karen Widman; as well as and their families; extended families; and friends.

Chris was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; her daughter, Margaret Mary Bade; her son, Andrew Bade; her brothers: George, Robert Wayne, and Ralph Lee; and her sister, Margaret Miller.

Funeral services will be held Friday, January 26, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Burial will follow in the Storm Lake Cemetery. Visitation will take place for one hour before the service at the funeral home. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
