Henry "Sonny" Koster, Jr.
September 11, 1944 - January 15, 2018

Henry "Sonny" Koster, Jr., age 73, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Monday, January 15, 2018, at his home in Storm Lake.

Henry “Sonny” Koster, Jr., a son of Henry C., Sr., and Beulah M. Parker Koster, was born in Anthon, Iowa, on September 11, 1944. Baptized as an infant at Trinity Lutheran Church in Anthon and later confirmed at the Grace Lutheran Church in Correctionville, Iowa, he lived his youth and received his education in Anthon. During the Vietnam War, he served his country in the United States Army from November 2, 1967, until his honorable discharge on November 1, 1973.

In 1970, Sonny married Brenda Nunn. Subsequently, they were blessed with two children: Wayne and Michelle. His nephew, Anthony, joined the family at the time of his birth in 1991, and Henry raised him as his own son. Sonny spent most of his life in Storm Lake where he operated a fork lift at Vilas and Company. In later years, he worked at New Hope Village in Carroll, Iowa, where he cared for people with disabilities.

A member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Storm Lake, he participated in church activities. In addition, he enjoyed working in his yard and on cars. Most of all, however, he found his greatest joy in watching and caring for his children.

Sonny’s life and memory are honored by his family which includes his children: Wayne (Betty) Koster, of Storm Lake, Iowa, and Michelle (Dustin) Handy, of Aurelia, Iowa; his nephew, Anthony Allen (fiancée, Jennifer Brouwer), of Storm Lake, Iowa; his grandchildren: Kelia and Blaize Koster; his brother, Fred (Rita) Koster, of Monroe, Wisconsin; two sisters: Lois Koster, of Storm Lake, Iowa, and Shirley (Ralph) DeLambert, of Eden, Wyoming; and his brother-in-law, Norman Hammond, of Wall Lake, Iowa; as well as by nieces, nephews, other extended family members, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Pat Hammond.

Funeral services will be held Friday, January 19, 2018, at 1:30 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. Burial will follow at a later date in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake. Visitation will take place Thursday, January 18, 2018, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
