Phyllis Marie Plagman
June 28, 1929 - July 1, 2017

Phyllis Plagman, age 88, of Adel, Iowa, and formerly of Alta, Iowa, died on Saturday, July 1, 2017, in Adel.

Phyllis Marie Goetschius, a daughter of Joseph Edward and Edna Ella (Schossow) Goetschius, was born on June 28, 1929, in Newell, Iowa. Baptized on June 8, 1930, in Newell and confirmed there as well in 1943, she attended school in Newell, graduating in 1946.

A beloved wife of sixty-eight years, Phyllis met Vern Plagman at her sister’s wedding in January 1947. On September 21, 1947, she married him. For a short time, they lived in Peterson, Sioux Rapids, and Linn Grove before moving to Alta, Iowa, where they farmed and resided for forty years. During that time, they became long-time members of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Alta where Phyllis, actively, participated in the Lutheran Ladies Aid Society.

Phyllis enjoyed socializing with the members of her card clubs, cooking, gardening, and sewing. She, also, liked collecting antiques and going to garage sales. In addition, she treasured family gatherings, and she, thoroughly, enjoyed caring for her family. Without a doubt, she will be, deeply, missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Vern Plagman; her sons, David and Terry and Denise Plagman; her daughter, Susan (Plagman) Reimers; her granddaughter, Stephanie Schnoebelen; her siblings, Joseph Goetschius and Lois Jean King; her half siblings, Wayne Ringer, Bessie Degner, and Ruth Hayworth.

Phyllis will be forever remembered by her children: Cindy (Kirk) Schnoebelen, of Altoona, Iowa, Kevin (Kris) Plagman, of Adel, Iowa, and Jerry Plagman, of Alta, Iowa; her daughter-in-law, Rexene Plagman, of Columbia, Missouri; ten grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and her sisters-in-law, Mary Alice Plagman, of Alta, Iowa, and LaVonne Schuknecht, of Linn Grove, Iowa; as well as by many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The American Heart Association in Phyllis' name.

Funeral services will be held Friday, July 7, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Adel. Burial will follow on Saturday, July 8, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. at the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake. Visitation will take place Thursday, July 6, 2017, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the church in Adel. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is overseeing the arrangements.
