Elaine Herrig, age 89, of Albert City, Iowa, died on February 15, 2017, at the Pleasant View Home in Albert City.

Elaine Neomi Harald was born on March 22, 1927, two miles north of Albert City, to Ivar and Neomi (Elg) Harald. Confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Albert City, she attended school in Albert City, graduating from high school in 1945. Then, she began working as a dental assistant in Storm Lake. On January 1, 1946, Elaine married Donald Carl Herrig in Lawton, Oklahoma. Subsequently, they were blessed with four sons: Terry, Craig, Scott, and Mark.

A housewife for many years, Elaine spent her time raising and caring for her family. She, also, picked eggs in their chicken house on the north edge of Albert City. In addition, for twelve years, Elaine worked in the dietary department at the Pleasant View Nursing Home in Albert City. Moreover, she belonged to the Golden Rule Club for thirty years, HOA (Help One Another) for ten years, and WELCA at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. She stayed active in the community by teaching Sunday school and volunteering at the Pleasant View Home where she helped with Bingo and served coffee. Elaine loved her roles as housewife, mother, and grandmother. She, also, enjoyed camping, sitting by a camp fire, quilting, dancing, walking, riding a bike, and traveling. In 2016, she and Donald celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Albert City.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Donald, of Albert City, Iowa; her sons: Terry (Cindy), Scott, and Mark (Terry) Herrig, all of Albert City, Iowa; her daughter-in-law, Kathy Herrig, of Sun Lakes, Arizona; her grandchildren: Kelly Herrig, of Emmetsburg, Iowa, Jenny (Stacy) Benna, of Pocahontas, Iowa, Jessica (Terry) Hoffman, of Coon Rapids, Iowa, Austin (Kriste) Herrig, of Alta, Iowa, Kyle (Kim) Herrig, of Chandler, Arizona, Karna (Thomas) Tate, of Scottsdale, Arizona, Heather (Peter) Wiebe, of Newell, Iowa, Kelsey (Peter) Martens, of Albert City, Iowa, and Kolesa Herrig (Christopher), of Marathon, Iowa; her great grandchildren: Skyler, Spencer, Sydnie, Mason, Jacey, Trevor, Jayna, Mckenzie, Gracen, Jackson, Alaina, Malia, Kai, Pre, Madison, Alexis, and Autumn; her sisters-in-law, Hazel Marrietta, of Storm Lake, Iowa, Laura Herrig, of Bonne, Iowa, Helen Herrig, of Comfrey, Minnesota, and Jan Herrig, of Mountain Lake, Minnesota; and her brother-in-law, Lester Anderson, of Albert City, Iowa; as well as many extended family members and a host of friends.

Elaine is preceded in death by her parents, Ivar and Neomi Harald; her son, Craig Herrig; her great granddaughter, Aubree Martens; her father- and mother-in-law, Carl and Bena Herrig; her brother, Wendell (Martha) Harald; her sister, Inez (Bill) Shold; her brothers-in-law: Fred, Russell, and Harold (Lucille) Herrig as well as Tony Marietta; her sisters-in-law, Martha Harald, Lucille (Floyd) Lorenzen, Irene (Clyde) Moore, and Delores (Lester) Senert.

Funeral services will be held Monday, February 20, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Albert City. Burial will follow in the Fairfield Township Cemetery in Albert City. Visitation will take place Sunday, February 19, 2017, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City is overseeing the arrangements.
